My name is Elaine, and I’m the founder and artist behind Artful Lettering, a boutique calligraphy studio dedicated to creating custom, hand-lettered pieces that reflect your unique personality and vision. A Lifelong Passion for the Art of Hand Calligraphy

My love of art has been lifelong, and my love for calligraphy began in the 1980s. There is a peaceful mindfulness to putting a pen to paper to create a work of art, forming each letter with care and intention. I had the privilege of learning the art of hand calligraphy while working with a talented team of calligraphers at International Star Registry, where we hand-lettered thousands of star name certificates with precision and artistry.

It was a dream job — a place filled with creativity, collaboration, and the joy of lettering. It was a truly immersive way to hone my craft with the best, and there were many hours of practice that were unique to the environment. We shared techniques, learned new alphabets, and practiced for hours in a dedicated studio that fostered growth and mastery. During this time, I also took formal calligraphy classes taught by the professional artists I was lucky to call colleagues.

From Studio to Home — and Back Again

After leaving ISR in 1995 to raise my three children, I continued to nurture my skills, expanding my calligraphy repertoire beyond the classic italic script to include pointed pen styles like copperplate, and elegant cursive. Over the years, I’ve hand-lettered:

In 2012, I returned to International Star Registry as their sole calligrapher — a full-circle moment that reminded me just how much I love this craft. And now, in 2025, I’ve followed my dream even further by launching Artful Lettering to serve individuals, couples, businesses, and organizations looking for bespoke calligraphy that makes a lasting impression.
